- Then arrange the apples on the pie crust and top with the leftover juice.
- Then cover the apple slices with the filling and press down lightly. To be on the safe side, place the cake tin on a baking sheet as the filling may overflow.
- Bake at 230 degrees for about 15 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 175 degrees and continue baking for about 45 to 50 minutes. Prick with a toothpick to ensure the apples are quite soft.

For this you need:

- 550 grams of apples

- 225 grams Muscovado sugar
- 300 grams of self-raising flour

- 4 large eggs
- 1 tbsp milk
- 1 pinch powdered sugar

- Then grease a rectangular sheet cake tin with butter and line it with baking paper.

- Add the lemon juice and mix gently.
- Then add the butter, muscovado sugar, flour, baking powder, 1/2 tsp of the cinnamon, eggs and milk to a large bowl and beat until smooth, about 2 minutes.

- Bake for 40 to 50 minutes or until cake has risen and is golden brown on top. The cake will feel spongy but firm and will begin to pull away slightly from the edges of the pan. The apples should be soft.
- Let the cake cool, then use a palette knife to loosen the sides and turn the cake over.
- Remove the parchment paper and let cool.
- Finally, sprinkle some powdered sugar on top of the cake.
